friends of kosciuszko Monument Committee

The statue of Tadeusz Kościuszko in Kościuszko Park was commissioned by the Polish community of
Milwaukee and dedicated in 1905. It originally stood at the north end of the park but was moved to
Lincoln Avenue in 1951. Over the years, the statue’s condition deteriorated, and by 2008, it was in need of major restoration.
The Lincoln Village Business Association and Polanki, the Polish Women’s Cultural Club of Milwaukee
formed the Restore Kościuszko Monument Committee and began fundraising.

In 2013, the statue was sent to Oberlin, Ohio for cleaning and repairs. The landscaping around the
monument was also upgraded. On November 11, 2013, the restored Kościuszko Monument was
officially re-dedicated.

The Kościuszko Monument Committee, in conjunction with Polanki, continues to oversee the
monument, scheduling regular maintenance and tending the gardens.
